When most people think of competition, they imagine "rivalry among existing competitors." However, Michael Porter argues that four other competitive forces should shape a company's strategy.

The five forces:
  1. Rivalry among existing competitors
  2. Threat of new entrants
  3. Bargaining power of buyers
  4. Bargaining power of suppliers
  5. Threat of substitute products or services
